TERN - Winter 2004

David North came to Norfolk in 1988 and fell in love with his adopted county. Now teamed up with one of Norfolk's outstanding wildlife photographers and film-makers,Martin Hayward Smith, he has poured his feelings, backed by considerable research, into a sumptuous, large-format book.
Written elegantly and often poetically, and with pictures that will have lesser photographers binning their equipment, the book first explores the landscapes and habitats of the coast, then offers absorbing descriptions of north Norfolk towns and villages.
Although there is plenty of meat in the shape of history, wildlife, geology and archaeology, this is not a textbook - and certainly not a field guide. It is a book for dipping and savouring and returning to time and again for sheer pleasure. David Paull

NORFOLK JOUNAL & EAST ANGLIAN LIFE - December 2004

This pictorial-based book took 6 years to complete and collaboration between author David North and photographer Martin Hayward Smith has produced an impressive book.
North and Hayward Smith intended to celebrate the North Norfolk coast and they have certainly produced a beautiful tribute here.

THE FIELD- January 2005

An exploration of the natural and human history with snippets of entertaining information.

BIRDS (RSPB magazine) - Spring 2005

Martin Smith's photographs are shown to perfection in a large , landscape format book and inevitably create the first impression: they make a wonderfully impressive collection. David North's text brings to life the wildlife, people and history of this complex coast, in which the influences of sea and land are so inextricably tangled in so many aspects of Norfolk life.
Aerial photographs of Scolt Head and Blakeney Point make a particularly stunning cover

Very many congratulations on a splendid publication so bringing alive our favourite part of the UK. J.F.C

Congratulations. It is stunning to look through and on a first "dipping in" I can quickly see that your writing is not just informative but, most importantly, evokes the spirit of the place. I am glad you dotted a few poems about; beauty requires it. I'm sure it will help sustain me through the coming winter evenings. S.L

This is my third order for this excellent book J.O

Fantastic pictures! J.O

Congrats on your superb book. An amazing achievement after 6 years work. I once worked for Jarrolds printing and Peter Jarrold chose an annual best production of year. I have a few of them and I can honestly say yours is better than any of them! G.R

You must both be congratulated on one of the most stunning books that I have ever had the good fortune to stumble across. You have captured the magic of the area so perfectly in the most beautiful words and pictures. I shall treasure this book for many years to come. Thank you for making me fall in love with the area all over again. Marion
